Former First Lady Barbara Bush joined us in painting a mural inside the Library of Congress in 1989.
Mrs. Bush has been gracious with her support for our campaign, writing three different introductions to various books we have published and honoring us at a reception in the White House for our work promoting literacy.
Working with such an esteemed woman was a thrill for grown-ups and children alike.
We received this letter shortly after the event.

Cartoonists Across America turned out in force to finish painting this giant 53 foot truck trailer donated by Jones Express in front of The Library of Congress on September 8, 1994 (International Literacy Day). We started painting the truck at the Philadelphia Civic Center over a 2 day period.
Pictures Coming Soon! Mr. T was one of the celebrities who helped out, and then it was driven over to Washington DC for the 1994 event which also included kids from the local schools. The truck has been on the road for several years promoting Reading all over the country!

Cartoonists Across America has worked in partnership with The Center for The Book in The Library of Congress for many years.
