Mural painting event in the
Aventura Mall
in South
Florida ! This was our second event in this
huge mall and we met some wonderful people. Guest artist Jed Martinez
joined us for the fun.
Friday, January 26, 2001

Celebration of the arts at the
Governor's House
in the
Cayman's Islands. This 2nd annual event
was open to the public and we had a wonderful crowd come out and join us
in painting 2 murals with local artist Wray Banker of The
National Gallery. Governor Peter Smith came by and painted a
duck on the mural! Artists from all different media were on hand to demonstrate
their work to folks of all ages. It was a tremendous fun event and our first in the
Caribbean.

Mural event at the high school on the
island of Cayman Brac
(one of the three islands that make up the
Caymans, British West Indies).
The kids worked hard all day with Phil's guidance and the
help of their teacher Petrina Roper.

School assemblies at
Oakley School
in Santa Maria,
California. We also did a special assembly for
the parents in the evening and had a fantastic turnout for this night time event. Many
of the parents were Spanish speakers and Phil always has fun with his
Spanish (and every other language) -- lucky for us, there were
excellent translators.

MegaCon, a pop culture convention,
at the Orlando
Convention Center, invited us to paint a mural
and we had the entire Florida
crew out to help us led of course by Danny DeAngelo !
Thanks to Tim Winstead, Rob Smith, and all the artists who helped us at this
show and at the Family Expo which was held downtown
Orlando
the exact same time - Phil and Jesse flew out for these events and split their
time between the two shows! It was tiring but worth the effort. We
introduced the 8th issue of The Winged Tiger Comics & Stories at both
shows with Danny's Major Impact on the cover.
Monday March 19, 2001

We were at the Boston Public Library
for our second mural event and the
debut of The Winged Tiger Comics & Stories #8 which featured
Boston
and other cities in Massachusetts as well as the whole country.

Newark Public Library
event with 1000 kids from local
schools organized by the Newark Literacy Campaign. A truly
incredible event in one of the most beautiful libraries we have seen
in our 16 years of travels.

Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at
UCLA - our booth
was in 111 in Zone A and we painted a huge mural for this
incredible show. Among our special
guests were Stefanie Michaels - Adventure Girl, Kevin Eastman,
co-creator of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and many other
artists, musicians, and friends. It was an event to remember.
The whole family was invited.

Weberstown Mall
in
Stockton, California for a mural painting
event. This event was from 11 am to 5 pm and the entire family
was invited. It had been 10 years since we last painted a city bus in
Stockton.
That bus traveled around the area for years afterwards
promoting the local literacy program and reading to all ages. This
event was geared towards families and we had our new Winged
Tiger Issue #9 to distribute!

Löhrhof Center

Recklinghausen, Germany. Stephanie
Gladden, the creator of Hopster's Tracks and who
has also worked on The Simpsons and The Powerpuff Girls was the
special guest as Jesse Yeh and Phil Yeh joined the European Office of
Klaus Leven and Ruth de Kleijn for another year of events in
Germany.

Klaus organized a wonderful poster featuring original artwork by
Klaus Leven, Stephanie Gladden and Phil Yeh and colored by Lieve
Jerger.

there always brings out some really incredible artists.

The Rosemont Convention Center
at Chicago O'Hare
Airport for the annual Wizard World - pop
culture convention that draws more than 35,000 fans! Geoff Bevington from
the Chicago office
will join Phil and Jesse Yeh in creating a very special mural at this
show and we will have lots of famous guest artists join in the fun as
well. We will debut the 10th issue of The Winged Tiger Comics &
Stories at this event and lots more wonderful surprises. This kicks
off a nationwide tour that will bring us to 20 states through

Smithsonian Museum
in Washington, D.C.
This event is
part of the International Literacy Network's Celebration.
The actual International Literacy Day falls on Saturday the 8th of
September. This weekday event will give us a chance to get more media
attention for the advancement of reading all over the planet.

First ever National Book Festival on the
East Capitol
grounds in
Washington, DC. This event is hosted by First Lady Laura
Bush and we are one of the 60 organizations that have been invited to
participate in a special pavilion called "Great Ideas for Promoting
Reading, Literacy & Libraries". The event will be from 10 am to 5 pm
and celebrates the International Literacy Day.

Northwest Bookfest in
Seattle
for the debut of a very special Seattle issue of the Winged Tiger Comics & Stories
at this great show. Guest artists include: Donna Barr, Roberta Gregory,
Jason Lutes, Tom Hart, Craig Thompson, Elizabeth Pankey,
Jennifer Daydreamer and many many more.
School events in
Hawaii with cartoonists
Jon Murakami and Phil Yeh.
Westside Youth Festival 2001 with the theme: Victory Over Violence
at the Wainaae Shopping Mall on the
Island of Oahu, Hawaii. Cartoonists Across America's Vice-President Jon
Murakami was the lead artist with Phil as we created another mural for the local
schools. Students and local artists joined us for a day of fun as we
painted at the event. Jon and Phil spoke at the local schools the
day before and many of the kids came by to help create this colorful
mural. Sponsors for the mural included The United Nations Assn.-USA
Hawaii, SGI-USA Westside, Ala Moana Hotel, Rainbow State Paint
Company, Hawaiian Graphics, and Papa Johns Pizza Hawaii. We will
have photos from the event up on the site soon.
Saturday, November 3, 2001:
Join us as we paint our first mural at the Lompoc Public Library from 10 am to 5 pm.
The event is open to the public and we encourage everyone to come help us paint in our
headquarter city of Lompoc, California
in the beautiful central coast.
Thursday and Friday, November 8 and 9, 2001:
Mural event at the Casa Blanca Community School in
Bapchule, Arizona. Phil visited this school a couple of years ago
and we'll be painting murals with all the students over two days.
Saturday, November 10, 2001:
The Central Library in Phoenix
for our first mural event in that city ! We will be there from 11 am to 5 pm and everyone is invited to join in
the fuin as we create a mural promoting reading and creativity for
Arizona!
Friday, December 7, 2001:
Mural event from noon to 6 pm in the Eastworks Building in
Easthampton, Massachusetts. The finished mural will be donated to the
Emily Williston Public Library after the event. The
public is invited to come help us paint.
