Phil Yeh attended the VANS tennis shoes debut party in the Silver Lake District of Los Angeles for Robert Williams in Los Angeles on June 14, and got a chance to see the new Rick Griffin catalogue for the wonderful Griffin Art Show at the Laguna Beach Museum of Art. His old high school classmate Greg Escalante had the book on Griffin's incredible artwork.

Phil and Greg (along with Tom Luth) had driven down to interview Rick Griffin in 1976 and Rick graciously designed a stunning cover for Phil's arts newspaper that December. This "Cobblestone" cover is featured in the new book for the Laguna Show. Rick was also one of the exclusive members of the ZAP comix club along with Crumb and Williams and it all seems to be coming full circle as Phil is working on his own epic new graphic novel - Cazco; What a Long Strange Trip It's Been.

Old friend George DiCaprio caught up with Phil at the VANS event and learned about the new Cazco book covering those wonderful wild years of the old underground comix scene. The new 32 page Cazco preview in full color will be at The Cartoonists Across America booth in San Diego for the Comic-Con. Phil will be signing at both our Cartoonists Across America booth and at the booth of NBM, who also published one of the very first graphic novels - a French reprint - in 1977.
