Phil has created this tribute to TinTin for the program book of this year's San Diego Comic Con International where will be showing off all our new books at our CAA booth and painting a new mural promoting literacy and the arts for the San Diego community. ComiCon 2004 is held July 22-25 at the beautiful San Diego Convention Center. Special guest artists Jon J. Murakami will join us in our booth. Phil is introducing their new children's book "The Winged Tiger and The Dragons of Hawaii". Our European Vice-President Klaus Leven flew in to debut his first German-English comic called Joey & Gonz! Phil Yeh's Dinosaurs Across America "Route 66" theme is featured on a brand new billboard on the Westbound Interstate 10 Freeway near County Line exit in Yucaipa, CA as of January 2007! The new billboard was generously sponsored by LAMAR advertising company. The sign celebrates the San Bernardino Public Library who also used Phil's artwork for their own holiday greeting card in 2006 and on t-shirts. The 9th edition of Dinosaurs Across America will be published this spring and we are planning a tour from California to Chicago (the start of Route 66) in March and April. You don't have to be located on the old Mother Road to have us paint a mural, or do a school assembly, or graphic novel workshop in your local library or youth center in 2007! We will be traveling all over the country and we believe that the spirit of Route 66 is everywhere in America. perfect for students anywhere in the world. It is truly an inspiring
story, set in the Golden State that encourages all ages to be more
creative in their lives. Email

New ARCHIE comic book will feature a
cover story on Route 66 with Cartoonists Across America's Phil Yeh!
21 Years ago, George Gladir, veteran Archie comics writer and
co-creator of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, heard a speech given
by Phil Yeh at a literacy conference. George was inspired to write a
very special story about Cartoonists Across America coming to Riverdale
to paint a cartoon dinosaur mural with Archie and his friends. That
story was also published as the cover story in the 200th edition of Archie's Pals 'n' Gals
with Phil's reading dinosaurs (Theo and Dewey) gracing the cover.
In time to celebrate September 2009 National Literacy Month, George has
written another story that takes place on Route 66 and includes
Cartoonists Across America coming to the Norman Feldheym Central
Library to paint more murals promoting reading and the arts.
The Central Library in downtown San Bernardino is located on old Route
66 down the road from where the McDonald's brothers first had their
original restaurant (now a museum). The new issue is BETTY &
VERONICA DIGEST #197, entitled: Route 66 Here We Come: It's
both fast and furious... furiously
funny and entertaining that is - this pavement pounding tale of
eco-friendly cars... libraries promoting literacy through comic
reading... suitcase cars... famous sites like the Cadillac Ranch... and
more as the teens rev up for a Route 66 rendezvous! Special guest
appearance by Phil Yeh of Cartoonists Across America! Here's the blurb direct from the Archie comics web
site and a link for ordering.
Phil Yeh was honored with the prestigious Inkpot
Award at the 2009 Comic-Convention San Diego. Comic-con's own Inkpot
Awards are given to individuals for their contributions to the worlds
of comics, science fiction/fantasy, film, television, animation and
random services, among others. The award was initiated in 1974 and has
been an important part of Comic-Con ever since. Each year, individuals
from among the show's special guests are chosen to receive the award.

The Godfather of the modern American Graphic
Novel Phil Yeh will paint a mural promoting literacy and the arts at Comics
Unlimited in Westminster on Saturday Sept. 19. The mural painting
is open to all ages and Yeh will sign his books with an original
drawing.
His graphic novel Dinosaurs Across
America was selected to be on Children's Choice 2008, a
list compiled by the Children's Book Council and the International
Reading Association. Yeh's latest comics are Dinosaurs Across New York and Dinosaurs Across California.
He also appears in the new Betty & Veronica Digest #197 as
a special guest star. This is the second appearance of Yeh in an Archie
comic book. Yeh recently got an Inkpot award at the 2009 San Diego
Comic-Con, where he was a 40th anniversary special guest. His latest
tour is called "Cars & Guitars" and features custom
guitars made by Patrick
Bubien and signed by creators all over the world.
Back from FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR 2009
We painted our second
mural under the Cartoonists Across America & The World banner at
the Frankfurt Book Fair 2009 this October. It was a very short trip,
book-ended with two long non-stop flights from LAX to Germany. No time
for any sightseeing or visiting any of our friends in other German
towns. Frankfurt Book Fair's Comics Center celebrated its tenth
anniversary and invited us to paint a second mural with students and
artists this year. Guest artist Phil Ortiz of The Simpsons was
with us from California and we had several artists from Germany
participate as well including Fahr
Sindram and Andreas Pasda.
The
finished
canvases

art.
Wolfgang Strzyz was our
co-host with Birgit Fricke handling the details of this trip.
Wolfgang had been our contact in 2002 when we had been invited to paint
our first mural at the fair.
More countries expressed interest in our work using cartoons and humor
to promote literacy this year than ever before. Perhaps there is a
growing recognition around the world that comics and graphic novels
might just be the best bridge to get a whole new generation reading
again after all. As 2010 marks the 25th year of our 25 year long road
trip, the interest in our work from so many countries promises to make
our last year of this tour a busy one.
A week before I left for Germany, a group of doctors from Beijing met
me for a long dinner meeting down the mountain from our home in San
Bernardino. They had come to see about us painting some murals in their
new hospital in China's capital city. As I had been putting the
finishing touches on my brand new graphic novel, The Winged Tiger in China, the
timing was perfect since I was going to be bringing sample color pages
to Frankfurt the following week as China was the guest country this
year. The mural we created in Germany included our slogan, "Building a World of Readers, Artists,
and Dreamers" in German, English and Chinese. A very nice woman
called Betty from Beijing showed up just in the nick of time to make
sure that my Chinese lettering on the mural was correct!
After 30 years of visiting my father's home country, I clearly see that
the vast number of people now learning English in China creates a
wonderful market for books in English. When we were guests at the Third
Annual China Cartoon & Animation Convention in the spring of 2007,
we really saw an incredible interest in our books like never before and
after all these years going back to China, I have only seen that
enthusiasm grow. To help people learn English all around the world,
what can be better than comic books and graphic novels as a bridge to
reading literature?
The year 2010 will mark a few milestones for me personally. It will be
the 30th anniversary of my graphic novel Cazco
in China which introduced my Winged Tiger character to the world
and also the 40th year of my independent publishing company. We plan to
have several new Winged Tiger books out in 2010 including the long
awaited Steve
the Dog & The Winged Tiger with my partner Geoff Bevington
and colored by Lieve Jerger. This book was dreamed up in the late 90s
and after all these years, we have finally finished this story set in
my birth city of Chicago. Lieve's incredible Copper Lace work will be
showcased in a brand new edition of The
Winged Tiger And The Lace Princess which is doubling the page
count of the original 1998 edition
which has long been out of print. This new edition will include a brand
new chapter taking the reader into the lace world and also many new
paintings and Copper
Lace sculptures created by Lieve. Both books will be published in
the spring of 2010.
One-Day Cartoon Mural in Sunny San Bernardino, California.
Artists from the
Inland Empire came out for our fun ONE DAY cartoon mural painting on
the Saenz Realty
building on the corner of 10th and D Street in sunny San Bernardino.
Located one block from Historic Route 66 and within walking distance of
the historic first McDonald's restaurant (now a museum), the all-day
event took place on Saturday, November 21, 2009 led by Cartoonists
Across America's founder Phil Yeh who now resides in the community of
Running Springs, 6000 feet up in the mountains above San Bernardino.

Phil started sketching in the design at 8:30 am and within an hour, artist Patrick Scullin showed up with his own ladder from Running Springs ready to tackle one of the classic cars! Check out

With
the
arrival
of
local
television
channels and the Mountain
Arts paper, the day was really a
great start for the first of many more public murals for the walls of
the Inland Empire. Another special guest artist was Fred Payan who has
created some incredible airbrushing on cars, trucks and motorcycles
during his career. Fred really brought the Woody to life and we hope he
will join us again in January as we make these cars shine. Phil's sons Jesse
Valentine and Gabe Yeh
showed up in the afternoon to help with the
details and logos of other community sponsors like El Pollo Loco, Gresham/Savage Attorneys at Law,
and Bud Rickert's Art Center.
Phil will paint his second mural
with the students of Mt. Vernon
Elementary School in San Bernardino on January 19 and 20 followed by
another day of painting at 10th and D on the Saenz Realty building with
many more guest artists. We are especially interested in seeing some of
the Los Angeles based TV stations out for that week in January to show
just how creative the San Bernardino community really is! Our mural
event in 2006 was recently celebrated in the September 2009 issue of
Betty & Veronica Digest written by Archie's legendary
creator George
Gladir. Phil spoke to more than a dozen local San Bernardino
schools in
2009 and offers a new Graphic Novel Workshop at the Central Library in
San Bernardino on Saturday November 28.

Cartoon artist PHIL YEH is recipient of the Ink Pot Award.
Cartoonist and multifaceted artist Phil Yeh began his professional career in 1970 in Southern California where he grew up. In 1973, he created Uncle Jam, a wonderful free paper covering the arts that he published for the next 19 years. In 1977 he wrote, illustrated and published one of the first modern American graphic novels, Even Cazco Gets the Blues. He followed up this first book with at least one brand new graphic novel each year for the next 15 years.
To date, Phil has written and illustrated over 80 published books. Phil founded Cartoonists Across America & The World in 1985 after being inspired by Wally Amos to do something about the literacy crisis on the planet. His band of artists has promised to tour the world for 25 years until 2010. They have painted more than 1700 murals in 49 states in the United States as well as more than a dozen countries working with some of the most talented artists on the planet. Phil's 2007 graphic novel, Dinosaurs Across America has been colored by copper lace artist Lieve Jerger and published by NBM in New York. In March of 2008, Dinosaurs Across America was named one of the best 25 graphic novels by the School Library Journal. Lieve and Phil are currently creating new artwork for their bestselling book, The Winged Tiger & The Lace Princess for January 2009. Their work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the world.

Geoff and Phil debut Steve the Dog & The Winged Tiger at the Bells & Whistles Snackery in Glen Ellyn, Illinois!
On April 3rd, 2010, Phil Yeh and Geoff Bevington painted a canvas at the wonderful Bells & Whistles Snackery to celebrate reading and their new illustrated book: Steve the Dog & The Winged Tiger (colorized by Lieve Jerger). Check out the pictures here!
Geoff has lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, for 16 years and as it happens, Phil has a cosmic connection to this beautiful town as well. In 1986 director David Seltzer made the film Lucas in Glen Ellyn starring Corey Haim, Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen, Winona Ryder, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Jeremy Piven.
In 1987, Phil Yeh and Leigh Rubin created a comic book story called "We the Penguins" as part of their Penguin & Pencilguin comic book series
to celebrate the Bicentennial of the U. S. Constitution. Phil and RC Williams would paint a mural on the capitol mall in Washington, D.C. with 100,000 people, as President Reagan and others spoke in celebration of this occassion. The genius of this historic story was making all the founding fathers into penguins, George Washinguin, James & Dolly Madiguin, Ben Frankguin in Penguinsylvania and Virguina with General Cornwalrus as the villian and Noah Webstar as the starfish for literacy!
David Seltzer saw one of the foamcore penguins from that comic book, Ben Frankguin or George Washinguin posing with actress Heather Locklear, in the newspapers and called Phil to have them appear in his 1988 film Punchline with Sally Field and Tom Hanks. Sadly, the penguins didn't make the final cut after putting in long hours on the set and really hoping that this was their big Hollywood break. We always say on the Cartoonists Across America & The World Tour: THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES. You cannot make this stuff up!
