The Winged Tiger in CHINA
Phil Yeh and Lieve Jerger have created a brand new comic strip for China's LITTLE STAR Magazine.
Little Star's editor-in-Chief, Xing ["Shing"] Yangjian, met Phil Yeh for the first time, and quickly invited "the Fastest Cartoonist on Earth" to
present awards for young artists in the Little Star
Environmental Poster Design competition, held in
in Beijing, China last February. The event featured
artists from International Schools and students from
around the world. After the ceremony, Xing asked Yeh
to create a new comic strip for his Little Star magazine's upcoming
issue. Since they were closing in fast on a press deadline, Phil actually
stayed up all night and drew a two-page black & white strip in his hotel room! The first installment
of the cartoon strip was an instant hit and Xing emailed Phil soon after,
asking him to draw another 4-page cartoon for a second
installment of this feature.
This time, Phil was back
in California, working 18 hours every day drawing and inking his new epic opus, the Cazco graphic
novel. Phil really welcomed the chance to print this second
comic strip episode in full color, which meant that Lieve Jerger
also had to take a break from coloring the epic Cazco
novel pages, trying to keep up with the Fastest Cartoonist in the World.
The results are featured here, and both Lieve and Phil
will be in Beijing in May 2007, after attending the Third
Annual China Cartoon Festival in Hangzhou, an event that is
expected to draw more than 300,000 people in 4 days.
The Winged Tiger in China was written in English first, but Phil and
Lieve's plan is to have the collected strips (all 48
pages) published in one full-color book, translated and published in at least 30 languages, off the presses in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
SO PLEASE: interested publishers around the world who are eagerly reading this: write us an email
to philyeh@mac.com and let's talk about getting this book published in YOUR own language.
