Cartoonists Across America debuts the first bilingual comic book by Phil Yeh
with special chocolate candy sculptures by The Candy Queen
at the San Diego Latino Book and Family festival, May 24-25, 2003

Cartoonists Across America founder Phil Yeh will paint a colorful mural promoting reading and the arts at the San Diego Latino Book and Family Festival on May 24 and 25, 2003. The two day celebration of reading will take place at the San Diego Concourse, 202 C. Street in downtown San Diego. Yeh will give away 2500 copies of Patrick Rabbit #12, his new bilingual comic book with ballons in both Spanish and English at the show. The books and mural are sponsored by M&M Mars. The The mural will feature the slogan, "Building a World of Readers, Artists, and Dreamers. - Consturyendo un mundo de lectores, artistas y soñadores".

Yeh will also paint murals at the Burbank Public Library on May 28 and at the annual BookExpo America show on May 30 through June 1, 2003. This year's annual trade show for the publishing industry will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Yeh will be appearing at Latino Book Festivals throughout America and also at other reading celebrations to promote this new book.

Brenda Murphy, also known as the Candy Queen, is the special guest in this very unique book. She has created a special how-to-build a Mexican pyramid project for this comic book story called "Patrick Rabbit Goes To Mexico". Chocolate was invented in Mexico thousands of years ago. Her unique candy sculptures have appeared on Rosie O'Donnell's show many times as well as on other national television programs. She recently appeared on Wayne Brady's television program with a candy version of the Emmy Award. Mondo Publishing just published a brand new biography book for schools and libraries called Candy Creations from the Candy Queen. Brenda and her husband Keith are flying in for the launch of the new book in California from their home in Long Valley, New Jersey.

Other guest artists in this very special issue include: MAD magazine cartoonist and Groo creator Sergio Aragonés, Gaby Cat creator Gaby Maya, and Buba creator José Quintero. CAA regulars Geoff Bevington (creator of Steve the Dog), Jon Murakami (The Dragons of Hawaii) and Klaus Leven (Joey & Gonz) are also part of this fun for all ages adventure. The story takes place all over the USA and Mexico City. At the end of the book, the main characters head for Belgium (there is a really nice page designed by Belgian copper lace artist Lieve Jerger at the end of the book. Part two of this adventure will be published in Patrick Rabbit #14 which includes a visit to Spain!
